En Route to BA!

Dear Family and Friends,
Welcome to my blog! I am about to embark on the biggest adventure of my life, to spend a semester living and taking classes in the beautiful and passionate city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. I am so excited!! I’m currently sitting on my first plane ride from Chicago to Houston, where I’ll pick up my connection to BA, and the whole situation still seems completely surreal. I mean, I’ve been thinking about this moment since I decided to go on the program in May, but now that it’s happening I can’t really fathom that I’ll be away from friends and family for so long on this incredible adventure. However, I’m ready. After all my preparation, months of thinking and planning, I can’t wait to soak up all this country has to offer.
I just want to give a quick shout-out to my friends and family. You all have been so amazing and supportive in preparing for this journey. I went through a lot of emotions while I was getting ready- nervous to leave the US, sad to leave my friends/family, anxious/testy for no reason at all, and excited for everything ahead. Thanks for being there for me; it’s so comforting to have such a strong support system.
A quick background about me- I am from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and I’m going to be a Junior at Santa Clara University in San Jose, California. I’m currently studying International Business and Spanish. I’m 20 years old, and luckily I’ll be back in the US when I celebrate my 21st in March!
Oh gosh, the closer I get the more excited and incredulous I become that I’m going abroad RIGHT NOW!! Hopefully in Houston I will meet some people from my program! Ok, well keep tuned. I’ll upload some pictures soon. Bienvenido Argentina:)

First Day Craziness

Hello, welcome to Buenos Aires! I don’t even know where to begin, these first two days in Argentina have just been a whirlwind of meeting people, struggling through the language, and being bombarded with and immersed in Argentine culture. After we landed on Wednesday and made it through the airport, a bus took all 100 people in my program to the Hotel Lyon, in the center of the Congresso barrio of the city. After checking into rooms, I spent the day meandering the streets with a group of new friends that were on my flight. We had canneloni for lunch, then wandered in search of cell phones “prepagadas” so we would have a means of communicating. Dinner that night was the whole crew, somehow we all fit into a restaurant!
A few of us went out that night to my first club ever!! Now, I know that it was my first night in BA but nightlife is a very important part of Argentine culture! It’s very different from going out in the US. It’s very European in the sense that the night starts around 12:30 in the morning-- how crazy! I mean, the clubs don’t really get going ‘til 3, and usually people head home around 6am!! Also, since Argentinians started drinking at a young age, by the time they’re 20 they don’t binge drink like college kids do. It’s really looked down on to get black-out drunk. I like their philosophy a lot, its so fun to just hang out at bars and meet people.
